A big turnout for this competition which was good to see, and what was even better was that they were all amazing stories! Well done to everyone, even though judging this time around was pretty hard because there were two of us Guardians around haha. Luckily we agreed on a winner.... Well done Professor! Your story will be put up but you're just going to wait for now because Nanuak's still in America with a bad connection.
Anyway, onto the art. We had decided that with the introduction of our new Guardians we'd set their first task as picking the new art theme. Well... when only one of the new Guardians turning up, because the others are on holiday so still don't know that they are Guardians, it slightly dampened the plan. None the less, HalfBloodRyan did an excellent job of choosing a theme, and so this month, with the release of Oath Breaker just around the corner, we're setting the challenge for you to create your own take of what the Oath Breaker cover should look like. There's only one rule though... You're not allowed to go along the same lines as the actual cover, so no horse. I'd image that you could have a lot of fun with this one, but it's also going to be tough to make something so creative and unique that the Guardians will pick it above all of the others, and we'd also like it to look quite professional at the same time. It's your choice whether you do it digitally or not, if you've got the software for it I'd probably draw a picture and then scan it in and arrange it to look like an actual cover. It's also your choice whether you go for just the front cover or the whole thing (front, side and back) - but you must get the dimensions roughly right to make it look believable.
Any questions just ask in here. Good luck!

Congrats Prof! I loved your story. Although a little disturbed by it...
CONGRATS!! Now we've both won once ^^
Ack, this month is gonna be a little hard, especially since I have no idea what Oathbreaker is about... Help, someone?

*gasps* Eeeeee! ^^ I've never won anything before! Anyway, thank you ^^
Hm... hard theme.
Its about Torak going into the deep forest, as far as I can tell.

Straight off Amazon, When he was outcast, Torak was the hunted one. The following spring, he becomes the hunter when he swears to avenge the killing of one of his closest friends. To fulfil his oath he must brave the hidden valleys of the Deep Forest, where the clans have reverted to the savagery of an earlier time. Here, Torak finally learns why he is the Sprit Walker and discovers the true cost of revenge.
If you have a look through the Campfire I'm sure you'll be able to find out more, but everyone's going to be in the same boat because we all don't really know what's going to be in the book. It doesn't have to be very figurative if you don't want, but it could be. Maybe you'd like to focus on the Deep Forest? Or on the idea of revenge? We're really testing to see how creative you can be over something that you don't know much about.

Well done Prof. This theme is a great one! I think I'm feeling slightly satisfied having all the tools to do it (Graphic tablet, Photoshop etc). However, I don't think this gives me any advantage, it just makes me feel better... :P I love my tablet *raves*.
Hmm... Although it's a great competition it shall be hard and I'm going to have to dig everything up about the book that I can, and use Wolf Brother, Spirit Walker, Soul Eater and Outcast for a little reference.
Good luck everyone!

Um, I have one question. You say "no horse", does that mean no horse at all, even if it's not drawn the same way as the one on the real cover, has no one riding it, and isn't the main feature of the cover? Could we not do our own one even if it's quite small and on the back cover?
Just wondering.

I'm tempted to say no horse at all lol, but if its quite small, and 'part of the background', I suppose that's alright. As long as it's not the main feature or anything, it should be ok ;)

You don't have to have read the book, just read the book description, I don't think any one's read the book on here yet cause it's not been released, you can still give it a go right?

Only one or two members have read OATH BREAKER. The whole idea is you read the blurb and make your own cover on what you take from the blurb. Or make it up yourself!

Is michelle on the clan?
Nigilynog
August 1st, 2008, 04:04 PM
Michelle isn't on The Clan because she doesn't have an internet connection. As far as I know NOBODY here has read Oath Breaker (apart from Admin, but he doesn't count). I know that none of us Guardians have and I know that Nanuak hasn't, so everyone's going to have the same problem because none of us actually know what's going to be in the book.

Could someone with the hardcover edition please scan in the cover and upload it as a template? Mine are paperback, and I don't wanna press my poor book flat to scan it in.

Opps, I forgot to be more specific. Not just the front cover, I meant the whole thing. Front, side and back.

If I remember rightly, someone has already done an entry like that - If you check the competition threads, you might be able to find their entry. It looks just like the covers so maybe you could use that?
