The Water and Heaven Between Them
Delihla smiled as she finished washing her families sealskin clothing . Her younger brother, Darryl had just come to her with news of a gathering between her own Seal clan, and Boar clan. Her heart thumped musically inside of her chest and one word flashed throughout her mind, Jamel. She held up a damp skin against her face smiling, and dousing herself with the water wringing off. Jamel was a Boar clan hunter and they were deeply in love.
They had first met when Jamel had fostered with Seal clan. Delihla had watched everyday dreamily and when he left she cried forever. They shared many happy memories of stareing at the night sky wanting to be together forever.
Now she would see him again at the clan gathering. Delihla was so thrilled that throughout the rest of the day she did every helpful thing thing she could, and that night she packed her bags for the next days journey. Delihla arose early and packed the skin-boat that she would share with Darryl on the journey to the meeting space. Darryl was 14 and easily handled the boat with both of them in it, Leaving Delihla plenty of time for day dreaming. She remembered their first conversation there first touch, and that he loved her.
When Darryl docked the skin boat Delihla dashed out not minding that she soaked herself in the sea. The boar clan members were waiting for the Seal clan arrivals with their hands over their hearts in the sign of friendship. Frantically Delihla searched for Jamel's dark hair and serious expression. When she saw a figure pressing forward she ran to greet him. It was not Jamel but his brother Aseop with a thick leather bag in his hand, Delihla frowned as Aseop walked toward her. "Here take this" he said holding out the bag with tears welling up in his eyes. Delihla took it while sinking to the ground crying with fear. Aseop continued "It's his heart taken from the boar that took him. He would want you to have it" and with that Aseop walked away leaving a broken heart and a heart broken Seal clan girl behind.
