My computer is playing up so it may come out wrong. Sorry.

The coming of the shadows

“She comes nearer. The power of the soul eaters pulling her along. The cunningness behind the gentle wind.” Croaked Lasoe. Quinno nodded. “She walks with the cunningness of the wolf but lacks the height of the eagle” he laughed. The two soul eaters looked up at the moon which shimmered mysteriously in the gathering fog.
“Soon she’ll be engulfed. Consumed by the trickery of the soul eaters and left alone to sleep silently in the Wolf clan bone yard” snarled a disembodied voice. A tall slightly hunched figure emerged from the shadows like mist.
Jlay’s eyes flew open; her hand reaching for her bow lying a few paces away. “Sindro We must move.” She whispered to the black wolf which lay beside her gazing at the moon with wide, alert eyes. The wolf’s eyes locked with hers before he sat up and began to wash himself calmly. Jlay stood up and shouldered her pack. “I am no fool, Sindro. The evil hunts me like a eagle with a mouse.” She growled her voice shaking as she imagined the raking claws and the gushing wounds. Sindro stood up too. “I shall come since my job is to guide you. Though do beware of the evil that waits. The danger that the shadows hide from us. Always look up and behind. Evil can be as silent as the eagle but as deadly as a bear. It has the appearance of mist, drifting behind you like a ghost until it’s too late and they have you in their grasp” snarled the wolf shaking with anger.
The forest gave nothing away as Jlay walked through it her bow slung on her shoulder for quick retrieval if she needed to. Sindro’s words rang through her head as she watched the wolf bound on ahead. “Evil can be as silent as the eagle but as deadly as a bear. It has the appearance of mist…” it whispered in her head.
Sindro stopped suddenly his ears pricked forward. Signalling with his tail for Jlay to stop; the young black wolf crept forward his belly brushing the ground silently. He leaped and landed on something which gave a squeal and began to claw at him. Jlay stood in shock. Was that a child Sindro was attacking? “Sindro. No!” she snarled staggering forward. Whatever it was freed itself from the wolf and hurtled into the undergrowth. “Sindro…” she began. “That was no child” he snarled back before stalking off.
Jlay followed shaking her head.
The dark sky gave the forest a eerie feel as eyes stared at her from every place. The moon light reflecting off hungry eyes, sudden light revealing slavering jaws. Jlay gulped and broke into a run passing Sindro as she went who also broke into run before over taking her. Sindro spun round. “What are you doing? Trying to get yourself killed again?” he snarled. Jlay stopped. She was taken back as she remembered when Sindro had saved her life before. She had slipped and nearly fallen into a ravine filled with rough edged rocks which threatened to break even the bravest hunters’ back. Sindro had grabbed her arm and pulled her away from the edge. She grimaced as she ran her fingers over the raised scars which Sindro’s teeth had made. “I know.” She whispered miserably. Sindro’s voice softened as he nuzzled her. “Now come and stay close” he growled. Jlay nodded and followed silently.
“And now for the final stage which shall bring her to us” growled Sunico.
Jlay tensed as mist clouded her vision and obscured her view of Sindro. “Sindro!” she yelled in fear. Sindro turned his head sharply but before he could act, his legs and jaws were being bound tightly and dragged away. Jlay smiled in relief as Sindro appeared. “Thank you Sindro” she whispered. Sindro smiled and led her to a cave. Jlay’s eyes widened in fear as the two soul eaters surrounded her. “Sindro?” she gasped in disbelief. Sindro smiled as he took on the form of the wolf clan soul eater. She looked around frantically. “What have you done with him?” she cried. “He’s in the corner” laughed the raven clan soul eater. Sindro snarled within his boundings. “What do you want with us?” she cried. “To show you your true destiny.” They laughed. Jlay frowned. “Which would be?” she growled. “To lie silently in the wolf clan bone yard” they laughed again. Jlay snarled in encouragement as Sindro broke free and tore out the throat of two of the soul eaters. “You too now have a choice. Death or flee” he snarled at the last soul eater who looked up in fear from his companions and turned to flee. “Thank you Sindro.” She whispered. “Now we go home” he growled spitting blood out of his mouth before walking over to the nearby stream and lapping up water to get the evil blood taste from his mouth.
Then girl and wolf walked side by side to face the world.
