Well done to everyone who entered the art competition! At first I was worried by how few entries there were but we had a lot of last minute entries. That's fine, and we had a few just over the deadline which we allowed. Please make sure that you get them in on time from now on - we're going to be slightly harsher on the timing next time.
The winner of the art competition is.... Bitayamoka!
http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s61/god_of_pigs/theclancompe07summer03.jpg
Well done to her, your art will be put into the fader soon and it'll be there until the next art competition is over.
Now, onto the writing competition. This is going to work in the same way as the art competition - it will begin today and it'll end midnight on the 26th. There's no need to send things in the post for this one because all you have to do is make a thread and type it in. There will be a word limit, but this hasn't been decided yet, so please keep checking back at this thread and it'll be added to my post when we have it. For now just gather your ideas together and think about what you could do.
The theme for the first writing competition is...
Clan Guardian
Try to come up with something as original and unique as you can. The winning piece will be displayed on the homepage until the second writing competition is over.
Good luck to everyone who enters!
EDIT: The word limit will be 1000 (one thousand) words. Please make sure that at the end of your entries you say how many words you used so we know you haven't gone over the limit (use a programme like Word that has a built in word count).

I think its just got to have a theme that involves a clan gaurdian. Just involve a clan guardian in your story...

I'm very glad that so a lot of people like my Torak art.
I feel honored that my art is put on slide show.
It was the greatest thing that
I could see the splendid arts of many talented people in this competition.
I love that I see arts almost as same as drawing!
I want to entry for next art competition if possible.
I look forward to I can see a lot of wonderful arts then!
Good luck to all who does entry for next writing competition . My English is poor, but I want to enjoy a wonderful entry of all of you.

I think there will be, but I'll ask Nanuak to make one just to make sure!

That's up to your creative license. For the writing we decided to chose a theme that was slightly less specific that for the drawing, simply because otherwise we'll have a lot of really similar entries.
*claps for bitayamoka* :D
Even though you're so skilled I shall not be put off from entering next time and I hope no one else is! hehe
I hope no one else is as well! ^^ It's not about winning and losing, it's about taking part, and by taking part you'll see lots of different styles and improve.

I have a question though.Surely if the story has to simply include a clan guardian, then couldn't we simply include it like michelle has done, and only make a brief mention to it,such as,"Torak cut the meat, and placed some of it in the tree as an offering to the clan guardian"?
Bird Of Prey
September 2nd, 2007, 02:26 PM
I'm not sure . I Don't know wheather they mean it has to be an entire story with a clan gaurdian theme as the main plot or just a brief mention as you said

Hey BOP, we were write about the word limit! Perfect! Im off to go and work on my entry! XD
Great wolf in the sky
September 2nd, 2007, 02:54 PM
If you are allowed to simply put a brief mention into the story,it may be considered less likely to win the competition as it might seem as if you haven't put as much effort into the story as you could have done if you had based the whole story on a clan guardian

Sorry people, haven't been here all day.
I can't really say what we mean by the theme - it's just up to your creativity. Obviously you cant write something that has no relevance to clan guardians, but anything else is up to your creative judgment, wouldn't be a very challenging competition if we told you exactly what to write.
Also remember that your piece of writing doesn't have to be a story, although it can be. For example, you could write a poem about the clan guardians. Really the only limit to what you can do is your imagination (and the word limit).

Wow Bitayamoka, you're probably sick of hearing this but congratulations, gorg art hun, you totally deserve to win. I have 2 questions (sowwie!)
1. Obviously you can't put our piece of writing on the slide show, so where exactly are you going to put it? (It's probably somewhere but I've skipped, please don't skin me alive =( )
2. We just post our entries in this forum right? No Need to PM or anything?
I'm sorry, it must be so annoying answering all these questions. I'll shut up now =D

Nigglynog,I have an idea, but it may take some ideas from some legends,is that okay as long as i dont base it entirely on the legends?
Nigilynog
September 2nd, 2007, 07:55 PM
Not entirely sure I know what you mean but as long as it has something to do with the theme, and as long as it's CoAD related it should be fine.

Are we allowed to do more than one entry? Because I have a couple of ideas and I can't decide which one is better!
Nigilynog
September 16th, 2007, 08:33 AM
For the writing we're sticking to one entry. It would be great if we could have more off people but so many people have entered, and it's going to take a long time to read through all of them and then decide which is best, especially as we all have busy lives. Sorry.

September 25th, 2007, 06:01 PM
Hopefully this hasn't been asked before, but does the story have to be utterly under 1000 words? What if you go a couple over it, but there's nothing you really think you could take out, would that still be allowed or is 1000 words the absolute limit?
Nigilynog
September 25th, 2007, 07:44 PM
Sorry for not seeing this earlier - I was going to have to post in here now anyway. The closing date is said right at the start of this thread - please take the time to look before you ask a question. Similarly, Arisa, I've already addressed this problem. 1000 words is the limit. If you go over by say 1 or 2 words then we won't bite your head off but please try to make it fit.
Anyway back to what i was about to say...
You have until the end of today to post your entries in. Any entries that are posted after midnight (GMT+1) will be ignored. Good luck!
Last time I said that some people got confused by the GMT+1. All that really means is that at midnight in London the competition will end. Please try to get your entries in before then - last time we had a couple that were just after the deadline. We let them in but this time we will be stricter.

Hi everyone,
Just a note to say that the winner of the writing competition will actually be announced on tuesday the 3rd because of difficulties coming to a decision. The quality and quantity of this competition has been fairly staggering and because we all lead fairly busy lives anyway it's sometimes challenging to find the time to read through that many entries.
Sorry for the delay - I hope you understand why this has happened but we'll try our hardest to make sure it doesn't next time. The theme for the next art competition will also be announced on the 3rd, just to keep the competitions running in conjunction.
