I’m delighted to welcome you to the official site for all readers of the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series – it’s great to have you here!If you liked reading WOLF BROTHER, SPIRIT WALKER or SOUL EATER, the first three books in the series, you’ll find lots here to enjoy. Right at the heart of the site is The Clan – a place where thousands of readers from all over the world meet and have fun. As you may know, I don’t have Internet access, so I’m not able to join in here as much as I’d like to. However, our trusty Clan Mages and webmaster The Nanuak are always around to help - all you have to do is ask. My choice for the long, dark winter nights, and a perfect antidote to Christmas, has to be the Collected Ghost Stories of M R James (Wordsworth Classics, £1.50). Quite simply, these are the finest ghost stories in the English language. M R James is the master of establishing a realistic setting, then dislocating it in startling and terrifying ways. I envy those coming to him for the first time - and would offer one suggestion. These stories need darkness and solitude in which to breathe. Don't read them on the train to work, or at school, or in a crowded, noisy room. Keep them for when others and sleeping, and the world is hushed. Then you'll have an experience that can never be repeated.
Very interesting! If anybody's read the Collected Ghost Stories, or plans to read them at some point in the future, please tell us what you think of them! I'll keep an eye out for these in the local bookstores...
